Feed The World

in Book Reviews,Giveaways

Christmas is often seen as the time of excess and of great joy but it isn’t always that way for everyone – something the above music video brings home well.

It was the lovely Jeanne at Food Blogger Connect (see the ultra cool video below and this article here) who introduced me to the BloggerAid Cook Book, how I had managed to be blogging for over two years and not know about it before I do not know.

ALL the money from sales will go towards a very important cause. Read an (edited) excerpt from the book below.

“Food does not simply nourish the body; food also celebrates what makes the world diverse, as well as, what unites us. The BloggerAid Cook Book is a collection of international recipes illustrating that we can work together and unite for a greater cause. The authors of this cookbook are food bloggers from around the world who have endeavored to make a difference by raising funds for the World Food Programme and encompassing their passion for “all things foodie” at the same time. …

The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) was chosen to receive the funds generated by the cookbook because of the wonderful work this organization does. The WFP has touched the lives of our members, many of whom are from countries where poverty is often a way of life. More specifically, 100% of BloggerAid’s proceeds from the cookbook will benefit the WFP’s School Meals Programme, which benefits an average of 22 million hungry children each year.”

You too can help in this endeavour by buying the book and spreading the word about it. There is so much of poverty in the world and whilst this book will not resolve every problem, the money raised is a tiny step forward towards our underprivileged fellow beings’ welfare. One day, who knows, those tiny steps will become giant leaps one day. So please help in this endeavour and promote the book in any way you can. And I emphasise once again that 100% of the proceeds from this book will go towards the World Food Program (the United Nations frontline agency) called School Meals.

You can join up to become a member of BloggerAid really easily by clicking the below link. It costs nothing but allows you to easily keep up to date with the fabulous achievements and work done by BloggerAid.

It is a simple yet very effective way to help fight poverty.

Thank you for supporting the cause!

It’s a win-win way of supporting the cause I think, we get something lovely to keep and the charity benefits from the money raised.

What a great idea…. btw, that dress looks great on you! :)

It’s amazing…. we spend time thinking about how to get the food that we have better, and looking more impressive. Others around the world are simply thinking of how to get the food we have. Makes you think, particularly at Christmas.

Thank you Victoria.

I was thinking about food the other day (no surprise there) but every year I think more and more about how local/ethical/seasonal the food I buy is and then it gets you thinking how not everyone has that luxury, they’re thinking of where their next meal might come from; so sad in this day and age.

Hey you moved! Love your new web site. I have one all set up and ready to move to, paid my money and everything, but I haven’t moved yet. Too chicken, or maybe too Taurus, haven’t decided which yet. But congrats! You did it. Thanks for telling me about this book. Uber cool.

What a generous giveaway George and thank you for spreading the word about the cookbook and BloggerAid. We are trying to raise as much as we can for the children of the School Meals Programme. This will help immensely with your generous offer.

It’s such a great cause I felt I had to do something. We foodies spend so much time talking about the ethics of what we eat, how can we ignore the issue of poverty?

Reply

Teresa December 17, 2009 at 09:10

What a brilliant post about a truly wonderful cause. There are so many people in the world who would love to have the food we are able to get. It really makes you think.

Hi Teresa, reading through some of the excerpts of text from the children in the book is heart breaking; it really does make you think.

I can’t believe it’s twenty five years since the first Bandaid record came out, I never forget hearing it for first time in school assembly. It’s very apt to see it here alongside the bloggeraid cookbook. So tragic that the need has still not gone away all this time later.

It is so sad isn’t it, that we are still battling the same problems 25 years on. Here’s hoping that BloggerAid continues to gain support and help the needy.

Very interesting , I can not imagine what life would be like if I had no food, not being able to pop to the shops and get what I want to eat.
I have only just found blogger aid.
Makes me realize that there is still so much poverty in the world.
I don`t understand why, with so many rich countries are unable to end this poverty.

George@CulinaryTravels December 28, 2009 at 20:11

Such a horrid situation isn’t it; there is no need for such dire poverty anymore.

I found you again! I used to write in Las Vegas now on Whidbey Island in Washington State. I thought this piece was terrific! It’s hard to believe that it has been 25 years since that music video was done; they all look so young. I do a food link post every week and you are one of the best!
