Margot it's the cloves that gave the 'dental' taste.

Jonathan I bet the stew would have been fabulous except for the cloves, I might try it again without them but I'm in no great hurry.

I'm so sorry. It is so disappointing after the time and effort you put into a meal and it ends up tasting awful.

i can't believe they asked you to put whole cloves in? next time, try wrapping them in some cheesecloth secured with some kitchen string... you can fish it out before you serve.

next time, don't do cloves and maybe try making it in a pressure cooker. the beef will be falling apart! i hate crappy cook books!

I'm sorry to hear that... I wonder what gave it taste like this... there is herb, you can read about it on my site, that actually smells like dentist, the name is Tabac Zombie (Ghost Tobacco) and have antiseptic properties.

I'm sorry the recipe didn't work out. It does look lovely and I can imagine the smell with all the cloves would be gorgeous. Shame it didn't live up to expectation. Vicky xxx
