Interflora Picnic Hamper [Review]

in Product Reviews

Hazy Days

On Saturday I invited a few friends round for a back garden picnic, – you know the sort that were common in childhood – to assist me in reviewing a Picnic Hamper from Interflora (RRP £60.00).

There first response was one of shock – Interflora? Really? Aren’t they all about flowers? Interflora actually have a have a huge range of hampers, from ale and cheese through to picnic hampers, in fact something for everyone and every occasion.

The Picnic Hamper was just made for long, lazy summer days.

Containing a fabulous selection of delcicious food – fruity flapjacks, mature Scottish cheddar cheese and cheese biscuits (Gouda, black pepper & sea salt and some dubious but strangely pleasant pizza flavoured grissini), Boarder’s chocolate crumble biscuits and cocoa dusted truffles to name but a few goodies, oh and, a bottle of Chardonnay.

The plates and cutlery are cleverly secured in the lid. And, while we’re talking about plates, please do note, that they are real crockery plates – not the melamine to be found in many a picnic hamper these days.

The hamper contains four plates and sets of cutlery, but many of my friends commented. that it felt more like a romantic hamper for two than one for a family day out. I disagreed, for me the food enclosed was that suited to family dining, sure you’d have to add other picnic staples such as fresh bread, Scotch eggs (home made or artisan please, not those insipid things from the supermarket that give the Scotch egg a bad name) and fruit, ok, you get my drift.

Size wise the hamper is easily portable but holds a plentiful supply, in fact, it feels a bit like Mary Poppins never ending carpet bag.

Key question: Is the hamper worth the rather hefty £60 price tag? Yes, the quality is excellent and the food of superb quality.

All in all, a lovely hamper and a lovely picnic (even if it was only in my back garden) with friends.

Nice blog here. I would say that £60.00 is rather hefty, but I believe the price is higher because the company has used a picnic basket with plates and cutlery. Our hampers are equally as nice, but we just use the traditional wicker hamper baskets without the plates and cutlery. Kepps the cost down and has the added benefit of us being able to add more goodies to our hampers! Happy days.

I would not mind the cost as long as I have a wonderful conversation and excellent food to back it up.
