It was my beloved Murphy’s 1st birthday yesterday; I just can’t believe where the time has gone. It doesn’t feel like eight months since the cheeky faced little eight week old puppy entered our lives.

He’s certainly grown a lot since then and is now starting to get his handsome ‘adult’ look, although he’s still only a puppy, just a big one

I’m so overjoyed we brought him home to us, he brings immense joy and joviality to us all.
So how could I let his birthday go unmarked? I couldn’t. He got so many new toys he didn’t know where to start with them all which unfortunately I think was a little unsettling for him but he soon began the rambunctious play, leaping round the garden, throwing his toys and playing catch and ‘raggy’ with us – so much fun for me and Murph.
I didn’t have time to bake anything for him yesterday so have done so this morning – apple & banana muffins from Woofing it Down by Patricia O’Grady. I had to make adaptations to the recipe due to Murphys gluten intolerance but they still went down a treat.

was intending to take a picture of Murphy with a cake but in true Setter style he ran off with it before I could press click. Oh well at least it shows he likes them
The Recipe:
- 3 cups whole wheat flour (I used gluten free white flour)
- 2 cups water
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 apple diced
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoons peanut butter (unsalted)
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (I omitted this)
- Preheat the oven to 350F or the equivalent.
- Beat all the ingredients (minus diced apple) together until well blended.
- Fold through the apple and pour into cupcake pans.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Allow to cool and top with cream cheese if wished.
