Full Of Eastern Promise

in Cakes & Cookies,Vegetarian

Armed with a multi-pack of Fry’s Turkish Delight and the recipe of the moment over on Violets Pantry, I just had to combine the two. The result was a selection of madeleines and little truffle bites.  They didn’t come out as neatly as I would have liked but tasted great anyway, although presentation is so important to me that I felt slightly disappointed in myself.

The madeleines are made using a combination of milk chocolate, crushed biscuits, golden syrup and originally malteasers however, I decided to ring the changes and added a drop of rose oil to the mix too and used diced turkish delight.

When I was a youngster Fry’s Turkish Delight was seen as the height of sophistication in the confectionary isle, however it has now lost its high ranking status.  I do have a fondness for it though, despite it not being at all authentic, there is something about the texture and lurid purple colour of it that is strangely pleasant.

The rosy scent of the Turkish delight and the minute drop of rose oil gave a subtle fragrance to the buttery chocolate bites, not overly strong, but enough to make you want go back and eat another, oh and then another.

This recipe should come with a warning attached – do not make when alone, you will eat the lot in record time.
